A sous-verre (under glass) is where you place your glass of drink so that it doesn't leave a mark on the table or the surface that you place it on.
I saw them for the first time a few weeks ago and bought a few of them. When I invited my friends over for dinner, we switched off the lights and all the glasses filled with water displayed nice, changing colors.
